You Are Here announces a new exhibition, Puppets and Performance: a festival of puppetry, that explores the magic of puppets---their creation, personality and performance. A puppet is a figure – most often a human or animal form—that is brought to life and made to perform by a human puppeteer, not by any machine. But besides being a performer, separate from the movement they are given, a puppet is also an artistic object created by the puppeteer. Puppeteers are artists that bring together the visual, kinetic and dramatic potential of their creations.
Puppets and Performance, curated by Natalie Condrac, invites visitors to come behind the scenes where the magic begins with puppets, their personality, and their performance space. Featured artists include D.T. Burns, Tom Sarver, Sasha Schwartz, Sherri Roberts, Joann Kielar, Maddie Macek, Ayne Terceira and Lindsay Goranson.
The opening reception for Puppets and Performance takes place on Saturday, October 5 at 6:00 pm. the reception is free and open to the public.
