Prop Making for the Stage

Nicholas F. Doyle is the co-owner of a Creative Fabrication shop, Vast Made Studios in
Pittsburgh, PA.  With a Fine Art degree from Ohio University, Nicholas found work immediately
as a scenic and props artist for off-broadway productions and multiple theaters and companies
including notable places, Pittsburgh CLO, Carnegie Mellon University, Fulton Theatre, and The
Wick Theatre and Costume Museum. As a scenic artist and props master Nicholas crafts the
visual and physical scenic and prop elements commonly seen in a performance space within
the theater productions, movies/films, and television shows.

Nicholas will be leading a workshop based on the creation process and development of making lightweight, prop books. Books are a commonly used prop within many different types of productions. Throughout many shows and movies, books are commonly carried, dropped, and thrown. As a prop artist one must create a stand-in prop or stunt-double that can be used to eliminate possibilities of damage, safety issues, and overuse.
