Mary’s Gift

Guess who just received an electric sewing machine?! A Singer 6212 from the lovely Mary of You Are Here Gallery. She was kind enough to help me along on my Fibre Arts journey by gifting her old machine. I cannot thank her enough!

I just tried it out on a piece of scrap from the current quilt I’ve been working on. Thankfully already threaded, since I don’t know how to do that on my own yet! I haven’t used a machine since I was 12 I think? Anyway, it worked! I shouldn’t be surprised, but I don’t have that much experience with sewing machines. What can I say, I’ve been but a humble little hand sewest up until this point.

I’m beyond thrilled. After all the ideas I have been wanting to create, finally using a machine should help me make more of those ideas reality! As silly as it may sound, I had residual anxiety from the times I used a machine. I think because I kept getting the bobbin thread tangled or lost in the machine and ended up breaking/jamming the machine?

Whatever the reason for past fears, I feel a lot more confident going into the future of exploring the world of fibre arts with a trusty sewing machine at my side. And youtube tutorials! I look forward to sharing more projects and ideas as I go.

Imagine how much faster it will be to attach the binding on this quilt! Oh I have heart eyes just thinking about it. Still going to hand quilt the top though, I am loving this experiment with sashiko and other patterns.

Until next time!
