Recognizing Blocks

2/9/21 Recognizing Blocks

Continuing to work through the Artist’s Way with other women from You Are Here’s Women in Arts group. Gives me a lot to think about in regards to my relationship with creativity and how it fits into daily life. The current chapter brings to focus the imposter syndrome I feel as I prepare for the upcoming Women in Arts show.

It took a few days before I realized that was what I had been feeling and why I had been reluctant to work on anything. Being able to pinpoint why helped me move through it. I spent the rest of this week planning the project I want to submit to the show. More updates next week on what I decide.

If anyone else struggles with imposter syndrome, whether as an artist or not, you are definitely not alone. I think everyone in the group working on The Artist’s Way has felt it at some point or another. Some have worked through the book years before, and are doing so again to reconnect and unblock. We tend to get in our own way, I know I certainly do as this week showed me. We can also step aside, and allow ourselves to be curious and see what happens rather than judge everything we do.

I hope those reading this feel a spark of creativity and experiment with something you’ve been meaning to try. It doesn’t have to be perfect or anything at all. “Make art dang it,” as our friends at You Are Here would say!

For those following along who would like to donate batting, fabric, textiles, lace, ribbons, beads, and other sewing notions: please contact You Are Here Art Gallery. I would love to see all the wonderful things you bring. You can always bring home something from Oh, Scrap! To create as well! Give a little, Take a little and Make art dang it!

Thanks for stopping by and happy sewing!
