Happy Halloween!

I hope you had plenty of spooks! This time of year I would usually create a new pair of faerie wings out of wire, cellophane, and fake flowers. With the way 2020 has been I wasn’t really feeling putting so much effort into new costume wings I wouldn’t be able to wear anywhere anytime soon. So I’ll save that project for whenever events are a thing again!

Instead, I stuck with my orange sweater to keep with those fall vibes. My boyfriend and I also made jack-o-lanterns together for the first time! Even without the seasonal celebrations, I think we had a decently festive Halloween. Plus our porch looked cute as heck. The tiny lantern is carved from a turnip! I really wanted to try out the older tradition of carving turnips. So cute and smol.

While I was on a carving mission, one of my best friends sewed a cute little D&D costume for her newborn daughter. Level 1 human! Oh, my heart. I’m looking forward to sewing more things for her daughter as well as she gets older.

As for my current sewing project, all the half-square triangles are cut and ready to layout in rows. Last week I organized them into stacks for each of their rows.

This week I began the process of sewing the HST together. I used safety pins to hold the squares together and practiced my ¼ inch seam allowance! Still a work in progress, especially when it’s only for 6 inches at a time and working around the safety pins. Working on developing that dexterity to keep those edges matched up while sewing consistent stitches.

I definitely prefer sewing entire rows together or the hand-stitch quilting portion since I can get into a rhythm with the stitches without having to stop and start again on the next little square. Still, it’s satisfying to see the pattern start to emerge.

I’ll be working on assembling these rows for the next few weeks at least.
