Welcome back!

Over the past several weeks I have been chugging away at sewing the individual rows of the quilt top by hand. I definitely lost some momentum for a couple of weeks, but am back on track. As of today, the quilt top is complete!

I now need to acquire some batting so I can begin quilting everything together.

I am really liking how this quilt is turning out. The colors and patterns give me those modern earthy vibes. It’s really cool for me to see how I’ve improved between the last quilt and this one, especially since it is the same pattern (just sized up and adjusted some). Matching up the geometric patterns is getting a little easier.

However, I did realize how bad an idea it was to allow the completed rows to hang from my curtain rod while I finished the others. The material is a bit stretched and inconsistent in places which made matching up the rows and pattern a little challenging. All in all, I think I adjusted to the goof-up well enough that it isn’t noticeable AND got to learn a valuable lesson in how gravity affects fabrics!

While I wait on finding some batting to go between the layers, I want to work on some 3D effects. Like I mentioned before, the pattern and colors give off a nature aesthetic I enjoy. So I would like to enhance that with some textured fabric and embroidery layers into the quilt top.

In regards to the Davis treadle sewing machine I mentioned, it does need servicing before I can use it for one of these projects. 2021 Goals to get it up and running!

As always: If anyone following along would like to donate, batting, fabric, textiles, lace, ribbons, beads, and other sewing notions: please contact You Are Here. If I’m about to embark on machine sewing, these projects will be completed much more quickly! As such, more textiles and notions will be desperately needed.

Thanks for stopping by and happy sewing!
